'It's all about power and control': Domestic abuse survivor tells her remarkable story
Domestic violence charity Women's Aid last month released a minute-long film depicting an ordinary street packed full of football fans jumping and screaming in their living rooms. The camera pans and stops in front of one house with an England flag in its window, printed with huge, black letters that read: "He's coming home". The advertisement highlighted the experiences of thousands of people across the country, especially women. From March 2021 to March 2022, 1.7 million women in the UK experienced domestic abuse.
